These are the dates the Government of Canada lists for the Veteran disability pension, and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) publishes the same dates on its disability benefits page. They apply to the monthly disability benefits: the Disability Pension and Pain and Suffering Compensation paid monthly. As of October 20, 2026, no 2027 dates had been published.

Not the same day as CPP and OAS

Many Veterans also receive the Canada Pension Plan or Old Age Security. Those are paid on a different calendar, one to three days earlier every month in 2026. In October 2026, for example, CPP and OAS arrive on October 28 and the VAC payment on October 29; in December, CPP and OAS come on December 22 and the VAC payment on December 23.

If you see one deposit and not the other on the same day, that is expected. Each program sends its own payment, so they appear as separate lines on your bank statement.

Days between payments

Because the date moves with weekends and the end of the month, the time between two VAC deposits is not always the same. In 2026:

FromToDays between payments
Jan 30Feb 2627
Feb 26Mar 3032
Mar 30Apr 2930
Apr 29May 2829
May 28Jun 2932

Jul 30Aug 2829
Aug 28Sep 2831
Sep 28Oct 2931
Oct 29Nov 2729
Nov 27Dec 2326

The shortest gaps are around February and in late November to December. After the early December 23 payment, the money usually has to stretch to the end of January, so it helps to set part of it aside for the first weeks of the new year.

Schedule pre-authorized payments a few days after the deposit date rather than on it. If a debit runs the same morning the deposit lands, the order your bank posts them in can cause an overdraft.

Which benefits are paid on these dates

VAC's disability benefits recognize a physical or mental health condition related to service. They are tax-free, and the amount depends on two decisions: how closely the condition is linked to service (entitlement) and how severe it is, including its effect on quality of life (assessment).

  • Pain and Suffering Compensation (PSC): the disability benefit most applicants receive today. You choose between a lifetime monthly payment, paid on the dates above, and a single lump sum.
  • Additional Pain and Suffering Compensation: a monthly payment for a severe and permanent service-related disability that creates a barrier to life after service.
  • Disability Pension: a lifetime monthly benefit for Second World War or Korean War service, or for other Canadian Armed Forces service when the application was made before April 1, 2006. The amount increases if you have a spouse, common-law partner or dependent children.

Current and former Canadian Armed Forces members, current and former RCMP members, Second World War and Korean War Veterans (including the Merchant Navy) and certain Second World War civilians can apply. Other VAC programs have their own rules; check their dates in My VAC Account rather than assuming they follow this calendar.

2026 Pain and Suffering Compensation rates

VAC publishes its rates each January. From January 1, 2026:

BenefitAmount
PSC, 100% extent of disability, monthly$1,419.82 per month
PSC, 100% extent of disability, lump sum$461,956.71
Additional PSC, grade 1$1,851.93 per month
Additional PSC, grade 2$1,234.62 per month
Additional PSC, grade 3$617.31 per month

Most people receive a percentage of the 100% amount that matches their assessed extent of disability. Your own amount is shown in your decision letter and in My VAC Account. If you choose a lump sum above 5% of the current maximum, VAC can pay up to $500 toward professional financial advice.

If your payment is late

  1. Check the date in the table — especially in December, when the payment comes early.
  2. Allow a little time. The Government of Canada says payments are issued on the listed dates but may take a few days to arrive, and asks you to wait 5 to 10 business days before contacting the program.
  3. Check My VAC Account for the payment and for your banking details.
  4. Call VAC at 1-866-522-2122 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. local time) if it still hasn't arrived.

Changing your bank account

In My VAC Account, open Profile, choose Edit direct deposit, enter your branch, institution and account numbers, and authorize the change. The next payment may still go to your old account, so keep it open for about 30 days. If that account is already closed, VAC mails a cheque to the address on file, which takes longer.

You can't stop direct deposit online; that is done by phone. Paper cheques depend on mail delivery, so direct deposit is the most reliable way to receive the payment on the date in the table.

Taxes and other benefits

VAC describes its disability benefits as tax-free. The federal disability tax credit is a separate, non-refundable credit run by the Canada Revenue Agency to offset some of the costs of an impairment; it has its own application and its own rules. How a VAC payment is treated by a provincial program, such as income assistance, depends on that program's rules — ask the program directly before making decisions.
