Every 2026 date in the Government of Canada calendar falls on the third Thursday of the month. That makes the CDB earlier in the month than most federal benefits: it arrives before the Canada child benefit (around the 20th) and well before CPP and OAS (late in the month).
The 2027 payment dates had not been published as of Wednesday, October 14, 2026. They will be added here when the Government of Canada updates its calendar.
How much you can get from July 2026 to June 2027
The CDB is paid in yearly periods that run from July 1 to June 30. For July 2026 to June 2027 the maximum is $204.20 a month, up from $200 in the first year. The amount is adjusted every July for the cost of living and does not go down if prices fall.
Your amount is based on your adjusted family net income from your 2025 tax return:
- Below the income threshold, you receive the maximum.
- Above it, the benefit is reduced by 20 cents for each dollar of income over the threshold if you are single, or if you have a spouse or common-law partner who is not eligible.
- If you and your spouse or partner are both eligible, each benefit is reduced by 10 cents per dollar.
- Part of your working income is not counted: up to $10,210 if you are single and up to $14,294 for a couple.
The government's online CDB estimator gives a personal estimate. If your monthly amount works out to $20 or less, the whole year is paid as one lump sum instead of monthly.
Who qualifies
To receive the CDB you must meet all of these conditions:
- be 18 to 64 years old (you can apply up to six months before turning 18; processing starts at 18);
- be approved for the disability tax credit (DTC) with the CRA;
- be a resident of Canada for income tax purposes;
- have filed your 2025 tax return — and so must your spouse or common-law partner, if you have one;
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act, a protected person, or a temporary resident who has lived in Canada for the previous 18 months.
The DTC approval is the step that takes longest for many people, because it needs a medical practitioner to certify the disability on Form T2201. If you are not yet approved, start there.
When your first payment arrives
Payments start the month after your application is received and approved. The first deposit comes on the third Thursday of the month after approval and includes any back payments you are owed.
Back payments can cover up to 24 months before the date your application was received, but never months before June 2025, when the program started. If you turn 65, you can still apply for back payments for the months up to your 65th birthday, within the same 24-month limit.
The $150 supplemental payment
A one-time $150 supplemental payment helps with the cost of getting the disability tax credit. People who received a CDB payment between July 2025 and June 2026 got it on Thursday, September 17, 2026, with a letter explaining it. If your first CDB payment came after June 2026, the supplemental payment is issued later.
Keeping your payments going
- File your taxes every year, and make sure your spouse or partner does too. Each July's amount is calculated from the previous year's returns; a missing return can stop the payment.
- Keep your DTC approval current. The CDB requires an approved disability tax credit; if your DTC approval was for a limited number of years, renew it before it runs out.
- Update your direct deposit and address in My Service Canada Account.
- Pausing. Payments can be paused, but no retroactive payments are made for paused months, and if you don't ask to restart within 24 months the benefit ends and you must apply again.
If your CDB payment is late
- Check the date in the table — the CDB is paid on the third Thursday, not on a fixed day of the month.
- Wait 5 to 10 business days after the payment date, as the Government of Canada asks, before contacting the program. Cheques by mail take longer than direct deposit.
- Sign in to My Service Canada Account to check payment status and your banking details.
- Check that your 2025 tax return (and your partner's) has been assessed.
The CDB is a federal benefit; how it interacts with provincial disability assistance depends on your province's rules, so check with your provincial program.
