Payment dates for 2026

The Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction issues all regular assistance on one day each month. The province calls this the payment (or cheque issue) date. The amount paid on that day is your assistance for the next month.

Every date is a Wednesday, usually the third or fourth Wednesday of the month. The ministry sets the dates around statutory holidays and the time it needs to process monthly reports, which is why they don't follow a simple "last Wednesday" rule.

Monthly report cut-off dates

If you have to report changes each month (income, people moving in or out, a new address), your report must reach the ministry by the cut-off, which is 6:00 p.m. on the Friday before the payment date. A report that arrives after the cut-off may not be processed in time for that payment, which can delay or change the amount you receive.

The dates come from the ministry's published issue schedule. The easiest way to report is My Self Serve, the province's online portal, which lets you send the monthly report and upload documents without going to an office.

Direct deposit, cheques and late payments

  • Direct deposit is the fastest option: the money is in your account on the payment date. You can sign up through the province's direct deposit page or My Self Serve.
  • Cheques are mailed from Victoria on the Sunday before the payment date, so mail delivery can push the day you actually receive one past the Wednesday. Cheques for pick-up are delivered to local offices on the Monday before.
  • If a deposit is missing, check with your bank first on the payment date (some banks post deposits later in the day), then confirm in My Self Serve that the payment was issued.
  • If a cheque is lost or stolen, contact the ministry: replacement cheques can be issued, normally from the Friday after the payment date, once the original is cancelled.
  • Phone: the ministry's toll-free line is 1-866-866-0800. You can also go to your local office.

Who these dates apply to

The same schedule covers all regular monthly assistance under the BC Employment and Assistance program:

  • Income assistance for people who are in need and can work or are looking for work.
  • Disability assistance for people who have the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) designation.
  • Hardship assistance paid while an application or an eligibility issue is being resolved.

The amount you get depends on your family size, your shelter costs, whether you have the PWD or Persons with Persistent Multiple Barriers designation, and your income. The province publishes current rate tables; we don't repeat the figures here because they depend on so many combinations. Supplements, such as a crisis supplement or a security deposit, can be paid on other days and some must be repaid.

Taxes and federal benefits

  • File a tax return every year, even with no income. The province says receiving tax benefits does not affect your assistance, and the return is what keeps federal payments such as the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit and the Canada child benefit coming.
  • Canada Disability Benefit: BC fully exempts it, so people on income, disability or hardship assistance keep the whole federal payment. To get it you need the Disability Tax Credit, must be 18 to 64 and meet the federal income test.
  • Leaving assistance: you may still owe money afterwards if you received repayable hardship assistance, an overpayment or a security deposit.

Federal payments have their own calendars: see our CRA benefit payment dates and Canada Disability Benefit dates.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next BC income assistance payment?

Wednesday, October 21, 2026. It pays November 2026 assistance. The following payments are November 18 and December 16, 2026.

Is the payment for this month or next month?

Next month. Each payment date pays the assistance for the following month; the October 21, 2026 payment is November assistance.

Why is the December payment early?

The January 2027 assistance is paid on December 16, 2026, a week before Christmas, following the province's published schedule. The next payment after that is January 20, 2027.

Is disability assistance (PWD) paid on the same day?

Yes. Income assistance, disability assistance and hardship assistance are all issued on the same monthly payment date.

When is the monthly report due?

By 6:00 p.m. on the Friday before the payment date, for example Friday, November 13, 2026 for the November 18 payment.

What if my payment hasn't arrived?

Check your bank and My Self Serve first. If the payment was issued and is still missing, call 1-866-866-0800 or visit a local office; lost cheques can be replaced.

Does the Canada Disability Benefit reduce my BC assistance?

No. BC exempts the Canada Disability Benefit, so people on income, disability or hardship assistance keep the full federal amount.

Are the 2027 payment dates published?

Yes. All twelve 2027 dates are confirmed, from January 20, 2027 to December 22, 2027, which pays January 2028 assistance.
